How to Get Into Top UAE Universities 2026 — Khalifa University, NYUAD, AUS and MBRU Admissions Guide
Getting into a top UAE university requires understanding five things: which university is right for your programme, what EmSAT scores are needed (mandatory for all UAE higher education), what A-Level or IB qualifications are required, how competitive the selection is, and what the application timeline looks like. This guide gives UAE families the specific, actionable information they need — not a list of what universities exist, but what it actually takes to get in.

EmSAT Requirements by University and Programme
The EmSAT (Emirates Standardised Test) is mandatory for ALL UAE higher education applicants — UAE nationals and expatriate UAE residents alike, regardless of which school curriculum they followed. Universities set minimum EmSAT scores by programme:

Academic Qualifications Required by University
Khalifa University — Engineering and Technology
A-Level applicants: typically ABB or above with Physics and Maths at B minimum (competitive applicants present AAB or AAA). IB applicants: 34+ with HL Physics and HL Maths (Analysis and Approaches) at 5 or above. CBSE applicants: 85%+ aggregate with Physics, Chemistry, and Maths at 85%+ individually. EmSAT as above. Khalifa University also awards significant scholarships — the Khalifa University Presidential Scholarship waives full tuition for top-performing students.
NYUAD — Liberal Arts (Most Selective)
NYUAD uses holistic admissions. There is no single grade threshold. However, competitive applicants typically present: A-Level AAA or IB 40+ or SAT 1480+ or equivalent. More importantly, NYUAD looks for intellectual curiosity, leadership, significant extracurricular achievement, and essays that demonstrate genuine original thinking. Applications are reviewed by the NYUAD Admissions Office in New York — not locally. The application deadline is typically January 1 for Regular Decision.
MBRU — Medicine in Dubai
The most competitive medical school in Dubai. Requirements: A-Level AAB or above (Biology and Chemistry at A minimum), or IB 36+ (HL Biology and Chemistry at 6+), plus EmSAT Biology 1100+ and English 1250+. MBRU requires the UCAT (University Clinical Aptitude Test) for most applicants — this is a separate 2-hour computer-based test assessing verbal reasoning, decision-making, and situational judgment. Shortlisted candidates attend Multiple Mini Interviews (MMI) — a series of 6-8 short structured interview stations testing communication, ethical reasoning, and clinical thinking.
